We've documented rapper Post Malone's heavy metal roots in the past, so it should come as no suprise that the pop sensation born in upstate New York by way of Texas, was a Metallica fan.
It shouldn't come as a shock that a dude who was in a high school Asking Alexandria cover band (jeez, how fucking long has Asking Alexandria been around?), would jam out hard on "Sad But True" and "Master of Puppets." Turns out real recognizes real as guitarist Kirk Hammett decided to give Malone a shout out on his Instagram page.
Kirk wrote "They call him Post Malone. I hope you enjoyed the show man." Metallica played at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, CA, and by all indications, it looks like they are in a backstage area of some sorts.
I wonder if Malone was chewing Hammett's ear off about how much he likes Power Trip. Fresno was Metallica's last gig of the year and the tour resumes next month in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Get dates here.
Either way, it's cool to see some cross-genre respect in the music world.
Update: Looks like Post hung out with Lars and Robert as well.
