2015 "Best Metal Performance" Grammy Award Nominations Once Again Disappoint

The Grammys almost got it right this time. Their nominees for "Best Metal Performance" are all at least "heavy" bands. Sure, they are all entry-level bands (for example: don't expect a band even as famous as Behemoth to be nominated for Grammy in the US even though they won one in Poland  – too obscure for U.S. Grammy voters). I'm convinced the U.S. Grammy board takes no time to actually listen to bands they may not have heard of.

Anyway, the nominees for Best Metal Performance at the 57th annual Grammy Awards are:

  • Anthrax – "Neon Knights" from Ronnie James Dio – This Is Your Life
  • Mastodon "High Road" from Once More 'Round The Sun
  • Motorhead "Heartbreaker" from Aftershock
  • Slipknot "The Negative One" from .5: The Gray Chapter
  • Tenacious D "The Last In Line" from Ronnie James Dio – This Is Your Life

Update: The winners have been announced. Find out the disappointing results.

Yes, two cover songs from the same compilation were nominated. It couldn't be any lazier. Ultimately, I expect Tenacious D to win because they are the most recognizable name and that's basically how Grammy voters vote. It will be interesting to see if Slipknot walk the carpet as they always garner good free publicity.

Awards will be given out February 8, 2015 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The nominees for awards actually shown on the main telecast will be announced during something called "A Very Grammys Christmas" tonight at 9pm on CBS. Sounds really exciting.

The Grammys…why even bother?

AC/DC have confirmed they will be playing tonight. We will have full coverage of the award show first thing tomorrow morning, Monday, February 9th. Take a look at our coverage from the 2014 Grammys, as well as Metallica's performance last year with pianist Lang Lang.
