Dave Mustaine Apologized To James Hetfield For The Supergroup Fiasco

Sometimes it really surprises me how fast the metal news cycle works. On Thursday we posted a story about Metallica's James Hetfield being asked about all this talk of a supergroup being formed with him, Lars Ulrich and Megadeth's Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson. All the talk stemmed from Mustaine constantly in the media mentioning how much he wanted to do it, and Hetfield, while very positive about Mustaine, saying his heart is in the right place, said he had no interest in the "supergroup" and wished Mustaine would stop talking about it.

By the weekend, Dave Mustaine was already contacted and interviewed about Hetfield's quote. A saddened Mustaine said he apologized to Hetfield. I repeat…Dave Mustaine apologized!

If you don't want to watch the video, here is the transcript of what Mustaine was quoted with saying:

"I already sent him a text message and said I apologized to him for saying that and that I won't ever mention it again. So, I like James and I thought what he said was flattering, and then it kind of went the opposite way, and then it kind of came back again, and you know, that's okay. I guess my whole thing was I just wanted them to know that I loved them and that I missed them and I enjoyed playing with them. If that's not mutual, then I understand."

He continued, "I still respect him, and I still care about the guy. If he doesn't want to play anymore, that's cool. If he doesn't like the idea of what I said, that's okay, too. It wasn't like I said it was going to happen, it was something that I kind of wished would happen. But you know, it's okay now, since it doesn't seem like it's gonna happen. And you know what?! It's off my bucket list."

Aww, Dave seems so sad in that video. I actually…feel bad for him. Then I remember he's a bigot, so I feel less bad. But still, he's a bigot with feelings, feelings that got crushed when his best friends from a time long ago said they don't want to play with him. Poor Dave.

If you missed the Livecast last night, I recommend going back and listening in, particularly to the part where we recreate these scenarios with co-host 3D busting out his fine Hetfield and Mustaine impersonations to nail both parties' quotes.
