We love talking about Dave Mustaine, and his many loony rants, so much so that we now have a whole section on the blog to talk about it. Now that Mustaine has made peace with his former bandmates in Metallica, he's stopped talking shit about them. On the contrary, he keeps talking to the media about a pitch he made to James and Lars about starting a supergroup featuring the three of them and Megadeth bassist David Ellefson on bass. He can't shut up about it, and it's too bad because in a new interview, James Hetfield just wishes he would stop talking about it.
In an excerpt from the upcoming 30th anniversary edition of Metallica's "So What" magazine, James Hetfield was interviewed and talked about reconnecting with Mustaine and how he wishes Mustaine would learn how to keep his mouth shut sometimes:
“I think especially with Dave, with all of his struggles,” says the frontman. “I see him healthier now. I see him as less of a bitter guy.
“But I do see a lot of stuff in the press with him talking about jamming with us and making an album. All this other crazy stuff.
“I read it and say to myself, ‘Hold on. This is the Dave that we kind of wanted to forget about. You know, the big mouth that wants to just go-go-go.’
“But there is an authenticity about him when he speaks. He doesn’t think too much before he does. He just goes off the cuff. Plus, when he says stuff like that it’s well-intended.”
At least the Metallica dudes are taking it all in stride. They could've just been like, ok that's it, Dave's cut off, but they realize it's just Dave being Dave. Now, I'm sure Mustaine will be interviewed in a few days and say the media is blowing everything out of proportion, so stay tuned for that!
