If you were on social media today, you probably have seen a bunch of screenshots from How-Old.net, a new uni-functional website Microsoft launched yesterday that began as an internal face-recognition project. You simply upload a photo and the site will attempt to determine the age and gender of people found in the photo.
Obviously, it's not perfect and it's led to some humorous results all over the internet. I decided to put the new app through the metal ringer and see how old it assumes some metal heavyweights are.
Metallica
You can see the Metallica results above in the featured image. Kirk is 52, Lars and James are 51 and Robert is 50, so they got them all wrong.
Ozzy Osbourne
Perhaps, the most surprising results were when I put in Ozzy photos. At first, it assumes Ozzy is a girl in her 20s, but then when I found a photo of him without eyeliner, it assumes he's 75. Ozzy is actually 66, so it's not exactly close.
Slayer
Tom Araya is 53 and Kerry King is 50, but according to this app, Kerry looks a decade older than Tom. Bostaph is actually 51, a year older than Holt, so the man looks young!
Megadeth
Dave Mustaine is definitely not 60, he's only 53. Adler, meanwhile is 42, so he looks good for his age according to the app.
Lamb of God
Oddly, in this photo Chris ages 10 years. Meanwhile, the app thinks his younger brother actually looks older than him.
Iron Maiden
Nicko McBrain is only 62, but he looks much older to this app. Otherwise, this is rather accurate, other than Dave Murray being 11 years younger than he actually is.
Cannibal Corpse
Alex Webster and Corpsegrinder are both 45 but according to this app, they are ageless.
Black Veil Brides
Basically, the best results ever. Crazy enough, Andy is 24 years old. I love that the tattoo is recognized.
Korn
It basically nails Jonathan Davis' age, he's 44, but Head apparently looks 11 years younger than he really is.
Head over to How-Old.net and post your results in the comments!
