Alice in Chains guitarist and vocalist Jerry Cantrell originally released his solo album Degradation Trip in June 2002. The album was then expanded into its fully-realized form Degradation Trip Volumes 1 & 2 in November of that same year, and also became Cantrell's last solo release for a while.
Then in December 2019, Cantrell played his first solo shows since 2004. Cantrell now tells MusiCares that he's reviving his solo career in 2020 for a brand new album.
“When I’m with Alice, I’m with Alice and that takes the majority of my time. This year, we’re taking a little time off so. If you liked any of the solo work that I did or work with Alice, I’m sure you might like some of this stuff too.”
It'll be interesting to see who Cantrell gets for this album. In 2002, he had then-Infectious Grooves and now-Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo alongside Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin.
Cantrell's most recent solo shows consisted of drummer Gil Sharone (ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan, Marilyn Manson), guitarist and composter Tyler Bates (Marilyn Manson), bassist James LoMenzo (ex-Black Label Society, ex-Megadeth), and an appearance by vocalist Greg Puciato (ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Black Queen).
