Welcome to the Core Breakdown friends. This week’s post is a significant one, given that it’s going to be the last for the column. I’m going to be shifting gears into another column that’ll make its return next week. It has been a lot of fun sharing with ya’ll awesome hardcore and metalcore jams, and to give this column a proper send off, here’s the brand new single from Engraved’s upcoming record, Drug Knife.
“Ravenous” is a stellar way to get listeners hyped for this post-hardcore treat, for it displays the band’s talent through various uses of technicality and structure. The track settles at times into a consistent rhythm, but makes sure to toss a couple surprises along the way. One moment the song will go off into pounding drums and lively streaks of guitar tones, to then shifting into this subdued haze of solemn emotion. Having the instrumentation go about these transitions brings an extra layer of feeling to the work, playing into the material’s overall intensity.
You can stream “Ravenous” below, and follow the band via Facebook. Thanks for following and reading the Core Breakdown these past few months; it has been a real pleasure sharing all this work with you guys (and keep an eye out for my new column soon)!
