Why do people hate Nickelback? That question was the basis of an actual study (quick answer: they're "safe"). We've seen trolls showing up at political rallies with signs like "Trump Likes Nickelback" and "Ted Cruz Likes Nickelback," implying it is something to be shamed over. Even the Canadian police made a joke about forcing drunk drivers to listen to Nickelback (which they were forced to apologize for). Nickelback are tired of the insults and have been clapping back. Kroeger famously started (and basically lost) a war of words with Corey Taylor for no good reason.
One person on Chad's side is not-at-all-crazy Billy Corgan, neigh William Patrick Corgan who told Joe Rogan recently that he considers Kroeger "an incredible songwriter." He went on to describe Nickelback:
"I don't know enough about their world, but I don't think there's anything wrong if that's who you want to be. Pop is predicated on satisfying. I've said many times pop is porn. It's porn, they want to get you off. It's just how they're going to get you off. I'm not that concerned with getting you off, I'm just not."
I'm sure Kroeger appreciated the positive comments. Corgan can join these folks in their Nickelback appreciation.
