The latest and greatest news from the Tool camp was originally that the band would be hitting the studio in April to finish up the recording of their new album, but then guitarist Adam Jones pushed that up to March. Coupled with that original announcement was that vocalist Maynard James Keenan said he was done with the lyrics for the most part and everything seemed to be living up to the band's pretty constant assertion that the new album would actually be out in 2018.
Now true to their word, and according to the Instagram of Jones, Tool is actually in the studio recording the long-fabled new album. Whether or not they'll actually make Danny Carey's hopeful deadline of having it done by May remains to be seen, but we're hoping so.
So wow. 2018 really does seem like the year, huh?
