Tool drummer Danny Carey is absolutely adamant that the new Tool album is coming out in 2018. In December, Carey said the new album would be out in 2018, and then echoed that sentiment one month later in another interview. Even more recently, Carey talked about the length of the new songs, and now in an interview with Overdrive he explicitly says he wishes the band could have the album out before May. Carey adds Tool will be hitting the studio "very soon," and yes – he realizes having the album out in May is wishful thinking.
It’s all coming together really well. We’ll be hitting the studio again very soon and have a couple of gigs in May (Coachella Festival), so hopefully, we’ll have the album out before that. It’s wishful thinking at this point. I actually think I said that this time last year (laughing).
Carey says there's quite a bit of material for the album ready to go as well, and that the band isn't just being lazy by not releasing new music.
Yes, there’s a lot of material that’s already done so, we’re looking to go into the studio pretty quickly here and off we go! Things are just rollin’ along. We don’t just hang about here in Hollywood, we are pretty much working all the time.
May is only four months away… so could we reviewing a new Tool album by that time?
