Morbid Angel returned to their death metal roots in 2017 with Kingdoms Disdained after a long silence in the wake of the much-maligned Illud Divinum Insanus in 2011. Morbid Angel would eventually hit the road, only to go on hiatus in 2022 saying they would "not be playing [Maryland Death Fest] or any other shows in the current climate."
Morbid Angel is back now, touring Revocation and Crypta, which of course brings up the question of if there will be new music. In an interview with That Metal Podcast, frontman Steve Tucker said Morbid Angel is just getting used to being a band again and has been tossing around some riffs in the process.
"I'm hoping so, man. We're tossing around some ideas and things like that. Right now, man, we really are just trying to knock the fucking rust off — get back out, do shows and get back to [getting] used to being in a band.
"There's a lot of social politics in a band. You have multiple members, and sometimes you have to get back in that vibe, in that groove and get used to working together and around each other again."
Morbid Angel's current lineup is mainstay guitarist Trey Azagthoth, frontman Steve Tucker, drummer Scott Fuller (who's being filled in for by Charles Koryn on tour), and guitarist Dan Vadim Von.
