METALLICA's New Album Is "Almost Done" According to Lars Ulrich

Could we hear new Metallica this year?

Could we hear new Metallica this year?

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held this past weekend, and Lars Ulrich was in attendance to induct one of his greatest inspirations, Deep Purple. While Ulrich was in the press area, Rolling Stone managed to get some quotes about the long anticipated new Metallica album that the band have been working on.

Lars said "The record is well on its way. It may come out any century now, actually. There's a saying: where there's life, there's hope." When asked if it was recorded, Lars responds:

I’d say it's mostly done. There are all these other responsibilities that have to be taken care of. Life in Metallica these days is not only about making a record; it's about these things and we played a show at AT&T Park and he does this, I do this. We have all these sort of different things that we turn to. But the record gets worked on where there's absolutely nothing else going on.

He then went on to say again, that the record is almost done. Previously, Lars hinted that the album could come out in the second half of 2016. We know the band have been physically recording the album since at least November, so I would say they really are likely almost done.

The band previously revealed they are in the studio once again with Greg Fidelman, who engineered their last record (although that one was "executive produced" by Rick Rubin, who does not seem to be involved this go around.)

So, perhaps we could be hearing another new Metallica song sometime this summer? Are you excited?
