Lamb of God has released their new song "Checkmate" off their self-titled album due out May 8.
The song is drummer Art Cruz's debut with the band in a studio setting after having filled in for now-ex-drummer Chris Adler live since 2018. Here's what guitarist Mark Marton had to say about the track.
“‘Checkmate’ brings together all the components of the Lamb of God sound that we’ve been developing over the last two decades, but with the ambition and ferocity that comes with the start of a new chapter for our band. Re-energized and reignited, this is Lamb of God 2020. We’ve never been more excited.”
The band will perform a free special album announcement show at the House of Vans in Chicago on February 14, and you can RSVP here starting at noon CST. The event will also include a photography exhibit featuring photos from vocalist Randall Blythe that will be included in the new album artwork. Harm's Way will open the show.
Lamb of God will feature appearances by Testament vocalist Chuck Billy on the song "Routes" and Hatebreed vocalist Jamey Jasta on "Poison Dream." The album was produced by Josh Wilbur (Korn, Megadeth, Gojira, Trivium) and pre-orders are available here. You can also watch the music video for "Checkmate" here (and below).
