Kirk Hammett Has A "Ton Of Material" For A New METALLICA Record

Assuming he doesn't lose it again.

Assuming he doesn't lose it again.

Metallica really doesn't want to make fans wait another eight years like they did between Death Magnetic in 2008 and Hardwired To Self Destruct in 2016. Though maybe the wait would've been a little bit shorter if guitarist Kirk Hammett hadn't lost his phone in 2015 with tons of new riffs on it.

Hammett was not heavily involved in the writing process of Hardwired To Self Destruct, but tells Australia's Mixdown magazine that he's got a ton of new material ready to go for a new record.

"When I was 13-14 years old, bands put out albums every year. Seriously, Kiss put out an album every eight months. None of this eight years between albums. None of us are very comfortable with the fact it's been so long, because that is a long time. We're hoping to avoid that this time around. We're in our third year since 'Hardwired'. Maybe we can get a bit more focus and go into the studio a bit sooner. I have a ton of material. I've over-compensated, so I'm ready to go anytime."

Hammett isn't the only one that wants to get going on a new record. Bassist Robert Trujillo recently said he'd also like to jump on things a little bit quicker. Though given Metallica's rigorous tour schedule, it might be tough.
