Look, I love Black Sabbath just as much as any self-respecting music fan loves Black Sabbath. I'm currently in the process of picking up the Rhino Records remasters of the band's old material put out this year, mainly because they sound good and partially because I'm a sucker for digipaks. So you know what I don't really need? A boiled-down version of those albums in a small box set.
Black Sabbath will be releasing The Ultimate Collection this fall, with the tracks it features all remastered by Andy Pearce. I'm not saying Pearce didn't do a good job, but his remasters have been available from between 2009 to 2011… and have you ever just listened to Black Sabbath's big songs and nothing else? It's boring as hell.
The Ultimate Collection comes out on CD and digitally October 28, with the 4LP set due out November 18. Aside from admittedly sweet packaging, is this really going to be worth whatever the asking price is?
