SLIPKNOT's Corey Taylor Posts Powerful Video on Black Lives Matter Debate

" You can back up Black Lives Matter and say that cops’ lives matter. It’s all the same thing."

These last few weeks have felt like some of the darkest times in our modern history, and in the wake of last week's shootings in Louisiana, Minnesota and Dallas, a new debate has raged on via social media and elsewhere about justice and equality in this country.

One of those topics is the issue of the "Black Lives Matter" movement. One take that was refreshing to see on the subject was that of Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor. Taylor posted a brief video to The You Rock Foundation discussing this trying times we're in. Here's the choice quote:

To me, it’s very simple: we all matter. There is a time and a place to talk about things like that. However, we are seeing that our black friends, our black family, are being… there’s a lot of violence going against them. So what we need to do is band together with them and say, “Yes, black lives do matter.” Because all matter. And to fight for those black lives does not mean that you are saying anything against anybody else. You can back up Black Lives Matter and say that cops’ lives matter. It’s all the same thing. And you can have all those different ideas in the same thought. And there’s nothing wrong with that, because we do all matter.

It's a powerful message and one that needs to be heard right now. Not many metal musicians are speaking about this topic, so I commend Taylor for letting his voice be heard.
