Earlier today, we reported that As I Lay Dying frontman was due back in court for a "Felony Readiness" hearing after being arrested on May 7th for attempting to hire a hitman to murder his wife. The supposed hitman ended up being an undercover cop. Lambesis is currently out on $2 million bond after paying $160,000 to a bail bondsman.
It looks as though there was no plea bargain set today as The San Diego Reader reports that the next court date for Lambesis will be on September 16, 2013, which will be for a preliminary hearing.
Lambesis has plead not guilty to one count of solicitation of murder and could face a penalty of nine years in prison if found guilty. While not much more info has come out of the trial, the Reader report also included this tidbit from Lambesis' defense attorney about why Lambesis would not be a flight risk if bailed (which he eventually was):
While arguing that his client was not a flight risk, persuading a judge to lower the bail amount, the defense attorney stated: “Mister Lambesis considers himself a homebody and would much rather stay here in San Diego than anywhere else.” Also, “Mister Lambesis does not even enjoy traveling for work and would much rather stay at his home in Carlsbad.”
We'll keep a close tab on any new developments with the trial. The Reader also reports that Lambesis' divorce with his wife Meggan will most likely be finalized before the trial begins.
Here is all of our coverage from the Lambesis trial.
