Metalcore is still a surprisingly healthy genre about a decade after it was pronounced passé. But one venue in Milwaukee has had enough. Metal Insider reports that Milwaukee DIY venue Borg Ward has banned all future metalcore shows after they learned that metalcore fans can't have nice things, like a venue that they would not destroy when the venue books a metalcore show.
Venue owner Connor Patrick Norton posted a message on Facebook noting that for the second time in a week, there are holes in the walls of the venues due to the aggressive moshing of metalcore fans:
No word on which bands' fans were responsible, but I'd assume these were local bands. I'd be pretty pissed myself if I had to apply dry wall to the same wall twice in a week because some kids don't know how to behave in a public space. Metalcore, at least the metalcore shows I've gone to, inspire some of the most annoying moshing and kicking and generally ruins the fun for everybody not in the pit. So, one venue is taking a stand.
Good luck to those kids finding another place to mosh.
Update: The venue posted this official statement:
Greetings, the Borg has recently been made aware of numerous articles published by online music sites of various sizes…
