MEGADETH's DAVE MUSTAINE Names What He Misses About '80s Metal Production

All about the honesty.

Megadeth guitarist and vocalist Dave Mustaine recently answered a few questions via Cameo for the Sobre La Dosis YouTube channel. Mustaine touched on his admiration of musicians who could genuinely play their instruments in the '80s, noting that it's a lot easier now to put together a performance in the studio.

"I guess there's a rawness and an honesty about the guitar playing back then, and the recording. Because now with all of the software applications and stuff, you can get a guitar player who's really a hack and make him sound great. And you can take a person who can't sing at all and tune their voice so they sound like Celene Dion.

"For me, I did a little bit of some work on my vocals in the very beginning of my career, and I thought 'that's just being lazy.' So there are some songs where my vocals are a little squeaky, and that's because you get what you get. That's the real deal there."

Megadeth recently moved their new record The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead back from its original Spring release date to sometime this Summer. The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead will be Megadeth's first with new drummer Dirk Verbeuren (ex-Soilwork). The album will also feature a mystery bassist in place of David Ellefson.
