MEGADETH Announces JAMES LOMENZO As Permanent New Bassist

A very unsurprising pick.

Megadeth has officially welcomed James LoMenzo as their permanent new bassist. LoMenzo has been filling in with Megadeth live ever since the departure of David Ellefson, and was previously in the band between 2006 and 2010.

"I am thrilled to welcome back James to the Megadeth family," said Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine. "James rejoined the fold as the touring bassist and it's been a blast having him back. We thought let's make it permanent."

"I'm so excited to rejoin Megadeth and move forward full steam into the next phase of this iconic band's history!" added LoMenzo. "With Dave, Kiko and Dirk, There's no stopping us! It just feels great to be home again."

Mustaine recently revealed in an interview with Jose Mangin of SiriusXM Liquid Metal that Megadeth will release a new album called The Sick, The Dying, And The Dead tentatively this July. The album features bass parts by Steve Di Giorgio of Testament (not LoMenzo) in place of Ellefson. Ellefson was fired from Megadeth back in May 2021 after a highly-publicized sexual affair and was removed from the album.

Megadeth will hit the road as openers for Five Finger Death Punch later this year at one of the dates below.
