GUS G. On Getting Replaced In OZZY's Band: "It Was A Little Bit Of A Relief"

"Honestly, it was a little bit of a relief, because I was just kind of tired of waiting around for all these years."

Guitarist Gus G. has had his solo career up and running since 2013 and his band Firewind since 1998. He was also Ozzy's guitarist from 2009 to 2017, but was replaced by longtime Ozzy collaborator and Black Label Society guitarist Zakk Wylde.

Gus now tells True Metal that while he understands Ozzy had a lot on his plate in recent years, he got tired of waiting around to do any touring or even studio work. Gus adds that getting let go was a bit of a relief because he didn't really see much of a future in the band. Ozzy hasn't put out a record since 2010's Scream and has constantly been on the fence about doing another one, so getting frustrated on Gus' end is certainly understandable.

"Honestly, it was a little bit of a relief, because I was just kind of tired of waiting around for all these years, not hearing anything [about potential tours or recording activities]. Of course, [Ozzy] was very busy with Black Sabbath — I understand that — but then in between of all that, there would be all these one-off [solo Ozzy] shows popping up and I had to make myself available for that. But there was never any… I felt like there was no… I didn't see stuff coming up for the future, you know?

So, as much as I loved being in that band and working with him, in a way, it was a little bit of a dead end for me, speaking personally. Of course, now he's gonna go on a big tour again and do his farewell thing, and that's great for him, but it was not a creative thing for me."

We just wrote about Gus' music video for "Fearless" off his most recent solo album, so if you're wondering what he's been up to then that's a solid start!
