Dream Theater is currently touring the world on its Images And Words album, which was released in 1992 and is celebrating its 25th birthday this year. The tour includes the album in full and a few fan favorites as an encore, and U.S. fans will get check out that whole package of progressive greatness at some point this fall!
According to bassist John Myung, the tour will hit the States at some point this fall, and the band will begin work on a new album in 2018.
"We have the second European leg in April and May. We're gonna take the summer off, and I have my camp in August. We'll reconvene in September and we're gonna be playing in Asia. And we're gonna bring the same tour to North America, where, as soon as we announced [the European leg], all our U.S. fans were, like, 'You've gotta come here.' So we will do that. And that'll bring us to just before the holidays. And the following year we'll get in and start working on a new album, but not before that."
The tour is cool enough, but I'm personally curious to see where Dream Theater goes post-The Astonishing. I've always been on board with the band's music, but The Astonishing kind of lost me a little, and come 2018/2019, the band will have hopefully put out something a little more coherent.
