Force Fest took place last weekend in Mexico, and we're hearing multiple reports of problems at the festival. It was a two day festival with acts like System of A Down, Carcass, Alice in Chains and others.
Day two unfortunately got rained out and led to artists like Rob Zombie, Lamb of God, Testament and Exodus cancelling. That left organizers having to reschedule the show. Two of those bands were Danzig and Slayer. Here's where the problems start.
Danzig was originally scheduled to play the third stage from 9:30 – 10:25 p.m. Danzig was then moved to the main stage to play 9 – 10:15 p.m, and Slayer were to follow, playing 10:25 – midnight, closing out the show.
Next thing fans knew, Danzig cancelled as well, also citing weather conditions. But, perhaps there is more to the story.
Bruce Miyaki, manager for Danzig’s Misfits bandmate, Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, posted to Facebook (and since deleted) a message noting that Slayer pulled "a power trip" and demanded to go on earlier so they could leave earlier. Danzig was unable to play later because of his own travel arrangements. Here's Miyaki's now deleted post:
“Slayer pulled a total Dick move today !!! I’ve been a fan for 20+ years but when a band pulls a power trip and decide they want to play in Glenn [Danzig]’s slot and basically tell him play after us because we want to leave an hour early…. That’s FUCKING bullshit .. Glenn has a flight to catch tonight and can’t play an hour and a half later … Wow I lost all respect for those guys in Slayer…..#notcool”
Slayer and Danzig's beef go way back to Fun Fun Fun Fest in 2011, after Danzig cancelled his performance and Slayer took a moment to mock him.
It should also be noted that Danzig performs in the Misfits with former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo. Lombardo does not perform with Danzig's solo band though.
