Dave Mustaine Shares First Tease of New MEGADETH Bassist

We have a guess as to who the new bassist might be.

Now that Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine is on Cameo, it has become a de-facto news source for updates on the upcoming Megadeth release. We've learned from a recent Cameo that the bass parts for the highly anticipated next album have been redone since the dismissal of David Ellefson, and today, Mustaine even offered a tease on who the new bassist might be.

Mustaine recorded a new Cameo for a fan, which was posted to the Megadeth subreddit, where he offered teases on who it could be.

"I'm walking around the studio right now. That's [producer] Chris Rakestraw sitting back there on the console," Mustaine says in the video.

"And you got our mystery bass player hiding behind the chair down there on the floor, so you can't see him," the frontman teased as he flipped the camera around to show the musician laying with his arms over his head.

"We will be saying who that is soon, and you actually saw him before anybody else — even though you can't actually see him," he added.

You can see the full video below, but here is the money shot.

Fans on Reddit have pointed out that the shot features an Ibanez bass. The logo on the headstock looks very similar to a Black Veil Brides logo, but not quite. It's just a BTB series Ibanez bass guitar.

One commenter pointed out that a likely contender for the position does in fact use Ibanez BTB bass guitars, and that's Angra bassist Felipe Andreoli. Of course, Angra guitarist Kiko Loureiro has been a member of Megadeth since 2015. It could be a coincidence but here is a photo of Felipe playing a six-string bass from the Ibanez website. Notice the headstock logo:
