Rolling Stone keeps publishing individual lists of musicians they asked to contribute to their 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums list, including lists from Corey Taylor, Lars Ulrich, Ozzy Osbourne, Gojira's Joe Duplantier, Deafheaven's George Clarke and Rob Halford.
Today, the magazine revealed the list from Avenged Sevenfold frontman M. Shadows, and there isn't much in the way of surprises. In alphabetical order:
At the Gates – Slaughter of the Soul
Dream Theater – Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory
Helloween – Keeper of the Seven Keys: Part II
Iron Maiden – The Number of the Beast
Korn – Korn
Megadeth – Countdown to Extinction
Metallica – Master of Puppets
Pantera – Far Beyond Driven
Queensrÿche – Operation: Mindcrime
System of a Down – Toxicity
I guess it's surprising that Shadows lists Helloween and Queensrÿche until you think about how much melody and harmony he brings to Ax7, and now we can tell where was inspired for that sound.
