Faith No More formed in 1979 , changed its name to Faith No More in 1983, and ultimately released its debut album We Care A Lot in 1985. The band stayed together until 1998, and then reformed in 2009 to play a ton of shows. The inevitable happened in 2014 and Faith No More began teasing that it just might be working on a new album, and eventually released Sol Invictus in 2015, its first album since 1997.
Since then, Faith No More has sort of wound down, and vocalist Mike Patton's newest full time job has become Dead Cross. So where does this leave Faith No More? Well, according to Patton in an interview with Full Metal Jackie, Faith No More is on an "extended break" that Patton doesn't foresee ending any time soon.
"No, I would share but I don't know anything. So, we're kind of on a extended break and if something happens, it'll happen organically and naturally but I kind of don't think it will. I kind of feel like we've tipped the scales a little bit, but we'll see, who knows? I've learned my lesson not to say 'No.'"
While that sucks, Patton does say he's keeping an open mind toward doing some more Dead Cross stuff. Which makes sense considering they've already got some new material written, and why wouldn't they record and release it?
"I think we should. It’s going so well and it feels really good — we get along real well. I don’t see why we shouldn’t put out a few more records and keep touring. So, we’ll see. I’ve learned to not make too many promises in advance, so, who knows?"
I guess if Patton decided to pull the plug on Dead Cross at some point, it's not like he doesn't have a billion other projects to go back to. That, or the talent to just kick up something else awesome.
