Gimme Metal's Top Tracks of the Week

VENOM, NECROSLEEZER among Gimme Radio's Top Tracks of the Week

Every Thursday, Gimme Radio Program Director, Brian Turner, delivers the top 5 jaw-dropping tracks on Gimme Radio.

Culled from the week’s past shows, these tracks have the Gimme Radio DJs' seal of approval, have the listeners demanding more and the Gimme office buzzing.

VENOM – Bring Out Your Dead

Ten years down the line with the revamped Cronos/Rage/Dante lineup, Venom can still trash it up with force, despite divided legions who invariably hold them up to their classic lineup's sound. Whaddayagonnado. Production-wise this is state of the art yet quite raw, and Cronos' rife-with-rolling-R's gargle is potent here amidst no-BS riffery that speaks the uniquely-owned Venom vocabulary loud and clear. The Man Himself talks to our own Jim Santanella on this month's Gimme 5 episode (12/25, 1/2 airings and a few more, check our schedule at gimmeradio.com).

HOBBS ANGEL OF DEATH – House of Death

Shades of Cronos vocals here (a good approximation anyway), an oldie dug up by hosts Reaper and Midnight's Athenar on Gimme's Reaper Metal program this past week. Spearheaded by guitarist Peter Hobbs, Melbourne-based, formed in 1987 and among the very first thrashers Down Under.

NECROSLEEZER – Prudent Sinner

Ace Gestapo from the 90's unit Blasphemy joined forces with the drummer of 3 Black Hearts in Vancouver after the former combo's dissolution, and the resulting demo tape shopped to no one was originally called Recruit For Conflict, now out as full fledged vinyl as Pope Kill on Nuclear War Now and remastered by James Plotkin. The band is no more, but this resurrected document sheds some light on some literal barn-location recording action.

COSMIC ATROPHY – Stygian Whispers

Lovecraft-leaning tech death metal from a US/Canuck hybrid known as Cosmic Atrophy hitting the racks for a second LP titled The Void Engineers. Primordial ooze running through the atmosphere underlying some serious baroque and prog flurries of guitar, mayhem and order colliding around a bubbling vat of weirdass vocals.

GOATS OF DOOM – Rukous

Synth-heavy black metal from Finland, their name is somewhat misleading, in fact, believe it or not, it's kinda uplifting….
