MEGATON SWORD – Wastrels
Epic, wrathful troo-metal from Switzerland, with a vocalist named Uzzy Unchained to boot! Megaton Sword have been cranked loud on shows here like By This Wax I Rule, and will be checking in Wednesday November 18th for their own Gimme special. For fans of fancy fantasy ala Manilla Road, charging riffs, battlefield waste etc. etc etc!
TOADEATER – Bit To Ewigen Daogen
Not a fan of the concept of actually eating toads, but they sort of atone by utilizing a depiction of a toad eating an actual guy on an earlier cover. Long black metal-tinged tracks, heavy in atmosphere, low on fidelity (in a good way), dense, enveloping, slightly goth and crusty around the edges.
VULNERE – Forced Relocation
Out of Portland, Oregon, this trio's savage uptake on death metal is a force to be reckoned with. Keeping the technical end agreeably sloppy, it's a smothering onslaught of distortion and dystopia, fuzz-inflected and laying waste with precision.
CORTEZ – Sell the Future
While radiating down-in-the-dirt riffery showing equal fandom of Sabbath and ZZ Top, Cortez's heaviosity surges with clean, stark production and smatterings of soul. It's a rich, unusual approach in a subgenre where everyone's out to recreate the DNA of the 70's in a sometimes overbearing flashback way; Cortez sound distinctly modern while encapsulating all the good classic traits of that decade.
EVILDEAD – The Descending
These guys started out in LA's '86 thrash scene, and with their return on 'The United States of Anarchy' we basically find them hurling fast and loud shapes at yet another generation dealing with grand scale oppression. Not much has changed. Guitarist Juan Garcia checks in with a Gimme guest DJ special on December 1st.
