HAVOHEJ, UNIFORM/THE BODY Among Gimme's Top Tracks of the week

Watching the evolution of Brooklyn's Uniform over the last year has been wild, the addition of supreme drummer Greg Fox in place of drum machines has only added weight to their mechanized death-crush, and recent live opener gigs wowing Boris fans shows them to be even more of a force to be reckoned with live. So sucking in pals The Body into their equation in this collaborative event adds some new power, in the form of synth fuckery and some techtonic wobbliness to make it go down even more queasy and uneasy.

HAVOHEJ – Seven Jinn

From the forthcoming 'Table of Uncreation' (first release in 10 years out November 15th on Hells Headbangers), some the coldest black metal in some time from a master. Paul Ledney established a true singular vision apart from his other Profanatica project back in 1993, and this track destroys after a creeped-out minute long distant drone intro. MOOSIFIX – Demon Within

Calgary moose crossing. And by that we mean crossing every conceivable bit of metal ideology into a sick stew of tech, grind, death, making a big rubberneck-worthy carcrash pile on their latest Sacrilicious EP. I didn't see any songtitles as inspired though as their past "Running Through the Woods High On Acid", but people grow a lot in six years!

CEMICAN – La Que Baja De Las Estrellas

Nahuatl for "The duality of life and death" Mexico's Cemican arrived in 2006 in a growing field of metal artists giving the nod to their pre-Latin Aztec heritage, though few bands use authentic instrumentation like rattles, wind/percussion from that folklore as a main element amidst their metallic maelstrom. Vocalist Xaman-Ek apparently does up ancient rituals on stage (including a mock heart removal!)

A pleasing slab of start-stop heaviosity from some hardcore-happy denizens of Ashtabula, Ohio. Looking forward to hearing more from their front.
