Hey there, tech fiends. It's that time of the week again. Before we dive into today's focus, here's the usual weekly reminder that if you're looking for even more sick bands to hear, all prior editions of this series can be perused here.

It's only been two years since Cognizance dropped their debut album, Malignant Domain, which we premiered here in this space at the time. As someone who has been covering the band since 2013, I'm still pleasantly surprised at the group's ability to switch things up and add to their sound in new ways with every release. So I'm still as excited as ever to help the band with this week's premiere of "Oneiric". The song comes from the group's 2nd album, Upheaval, out September 24th through Prosthetic Records.

The Uk-based dudes in Cognizance have always had an interesting blend of brutality, melody, and prog-death interspersed ideas at the base of their tech-death sound no matter which release of theirs you have heard. Over time, things have always kept evolving while still staying true to their core signature traits as a band. Something that really holds true on the single we're airing today that's called "Oneiric" with its newfound dissonant-centered dimensions adding something fresh in addition to being one of the songs written by their recently added 2nd guitarist, Apostolis Karydis.

Cognizance shared the following regarding "Oneiric", "Oneiric is the third single from Upheaval and showcases the more technical and extreme side of Cognizance. This was the first song Apostolis wrote for the band after joining as a guitarist and is a great exhibit of the flavor he adds to our sound. The lyrics of the song were inspired by Dorris Lessing's "Canopus In Argos" series and explores the dichotomy between improvement and elimination of the human condition."

So be sure to check out Cognizance – "Oneiric" below. Pre-orders for their upcoming 2nd album, Upheaval, are available here. You can follow the group on Facebook and Instagram as well.
