Decibel Clips of the Month December 2015: Tribulation, Abbath, The Black Dahlia Murder & Classic Clip from Sacrifice
Every month, Decibel scribe Shane Mehling reviews the four videos that appear in the monthly metal mag. under “Decibel’s Clips of the Month at Metal Injection.” This month, watch picks from Tribulation, Abbath, The Black Dahlia Murder and a classic clip from Sacrifice
Tribulation – “Melancholia”
Boy, does Tribulation love that picture of the lady dancing with the cape. She was in the last video, and now they just have a cutout of her like the bat signal. But what else do we have here? Woods and some hands. The singer, a lady, other people, and everything is honestly super under-lit. Let me know if it’s my screen, ’cause I can barely make out anything. This video is like 40 percent eye strain. Okay, there’s like little flashes of other things, but for the most part it seems like someone was just told to make an infomercial for darkness and clouds. Maybe we’ll get a little more action in the next clip.
Abbath – “Fenrir Hunts”
So, I guess this is the video, though it’s a live studio thing on a YouTube Channel called AbbathTV, which is so far the highlight. Okay, well, there’s Abbath and other people with corpsepaint, and the drummer’s wearing a demon mask like he’s in Mushroomhead, and there is nothing else to talk about except doesn’t it bug anyone else how many random strands of hair Abbath lets stick to his face? You probably can’t pull them off without screwing up your makeup, but goddammit, that would drive me crazy. Anyway, like I said, this is just a live video, so maybe that action’s gonna show up in the next clip.
The Black Dahlia Murder – “Receipt”
All right, all right, all right. Bloody razorblades, a gun and some dude hanging himself. Now we’re getting somewhere. Sure, it’s now just the band playing, but we’ll get back to that other stuff soon enough, right? Any time now. Oh, the singer has a pentagram on his hand. That’s cool—remember all that suicide shit you started with at the beginning? I don’t need a close-up of the solo. I don’t need slo-mo headbanging. Give me what you promised! No, don’t just show the gun again! Do something with it! Fuck. Fuck you.
CLASSIC CLIP: Sacrifice – “Re-Animation”
When I see a piano being played by a hand with a frilly white sleeve, I am ready to be stoked. And while the video never quite surpasses that image, there is enough creepy, ghostly slo-mo footage that looks like it was shot in 1978 to satiate you. But I think the plot is some kid finds a necklace and then goes back in time to some formal dance party with a witch, and where’s this kid now, anyway? It’s been 20 years. No way is this getting him laid or… I guess doing anything for him, but who here wants Metal Injection to interview the shit out of this guy?
