Decibel's Clips of the Month

Decibel Clips of the Month March 2016: At The Gates, Magrudergrind, Rage & Classic Clip from High On Fire

Every month, Decibel scribe Shane Mehling reviews the four videos that appear in the monthly metal mag. under “Decibel’s Clips of the Month at Metal Injection.” This month, watch picks from At The Gates, Magrudergrind, Rage and a classic clip from High On Fire

At the Gates – "The Circular Ruins (live)"

I'm pretty sure I've reviewed more At the Gates clips than any other band, and have enjoyed maybe none of them. Nothing against the band, but they are not killing it in the music video department. And while I already didn't expect much, this goes below and beyond in the snoozefest department. Never have I seen footage with so much emphasis on the half dozen security guards staring straight ahead in utter tedium. Even shots of the pit make it look like there's a gas leak in the venue. Maybe next time they can just pair a new song with people waiting at the DMV.

Magrudergrind – "Sacrificial Hire"

Fuzzy footage of guns, someone preaching, a lot of up-close footage of someone making maybe a bomb, and then I think putting it in a package and mailing it? Maybe? Oh fuck, it's over. Like 90 seconds of that. Huh. Well, I think some religious fanatic has begun or continued a streak of mindless terror, but the important question is, are you into watching a guy solder some shit? Because that is a solid 80 percent of the video.

Rage – "My Way"

All right, skull covered in maggots. And hell yeah,

All right, skull covered in maggots. And hell yeah, guy sitting on a skull throne holding a skull staff atop a big pile of skulls. Fuck yeah I'm feeling it. And here is the guy also playing with the band in a big warehouse and… okay, well, back to him on the throne. Now the band. Throne. Band. Hmmm… see, I love the throne; we’ve established that. But I was kinda hoping maybe with the skulls and the maggots there would be… I don’t know, maybe I should just be thankful for fucking anything right now.

CLASSIC CLIP: High on Fire – "Hung, Drawn & Quartered"

This month's batch of videos has been kind of a downer, but while there are a bunch of filler shots of photos from High on Fire staying at Holiday Inns and shit, this is a pretty graphic depiction of Matt Pike doing what he does best, guitar in hand, destroying with a couple other dudes while some stoned dorks lose their minds in front of the stage a few feet away. And, of course, only rarely must you suffer missing out on the sparkling rubies that are Pike's uncovered nipples.
