Decibel's Clips of the Month

Decibel Clips of the Month November 2013: MONSTER MAGNET, TESTAMENT, KILL DIVISION and a classic clip from TOXIC HOLOCAUST

Every month, Decibel scribe Shane Mehling reviews the four videos that appear in the monthly metal mag. under “Decibel’s Clips of the Month at Metal Injection.” This month, watch picks from Monster Magnet, Testament, Kill Division, and a classic clip from Toxic Holocaust.

Monster Magnet – “Mindless Ones”

Pretty thankful this month’s obligatory retro video is from Dave Wyndorf, who has been dressing like the ’70s since literally the 1970s. But aside from that, this is your basic band-playing-in-the-studio clip until they themselves get sucked into the trippy effects, man. And while Dave isn’t rocking a suit covered in light bulbs, you know he needed to somehow include the ladies. So, if you’ve never heard of Monster Magnet, they’re a stoner rock band that only hires hot women as gaffers.

Testament – “Rise Up”

This is a standard live video with some audience participation, but Chuck Billy is still rocking a half mic stand, and I gotta say, those things make no sense to me. I know they’re helpful in miming like you’re playing a guitar, which he continues to perform with graceful ease, but the bottom swings exactly at crotch level. That man’s been risking a severe testicle bruising for the sake of thrash a long, long time.

Kill Division – “Mechanic Domination”

For the first 30 seconds, I thought the Gears of War logo was going to pop up, but then the band started playing inside a plane and… man, there’s a lot of just the bands playing this month. Anyway, I know the point is to stick with just the video, but is that song title confusing anyone else? Is the world being taken over by the guys who told me my Honda Civic needs new transmission fluid?

CLASSIC CLIP: Toxic Holocaust “Nuke the Cross”

When your video opens with a flaming arm thrashing at a Flying V, you’d have to try pretty hard to fuck it up from there. So, even though this video is (again) mostly just the band playing, there’s a bunch of fire and a dude in a gas mask and a solid amount of headbands. Also, a bunch of leaves; you’ll enjoy the video a lot more if you imagine that when filming was over, the crew made a big pile and cheered while Joel Grind jumped into them.

We highly recommend skipping out on binge drinking tonight and using that money towards a one year subscription to Decibel Magazine!
