River Coffin formed in June 2013 in Chicago, IL. They play a mixture of grindcore, punk, sludge and d-beat. Their debut demo/EP is a concept piece on the Waco, TX/Branch Davidian siege of 1993 entitled… Branch Davidian.
The piece is thirteen minutes and moves along quickly. River Coffin doesn't go crazy with blast beats and sticks closer to a punk-inspired formula, with a healthy uptempo. River Coffin also doesn't dwell too much on any particular riff either, so nothing feel dragged out or over wrought. They're a band that doesn't want to fuck around creating mood. Instead, the band aims for full-on destruction and succeeds in spades. If you fancy yourself a fan of raw, abrasive d-beat/grindcore then hit up some River Coffin.
Favorite track: “Killer,” an extremely d-beat inspired piece that plummets forward with relentless momentum. Also features a kick ass, groovy guitar riff.
