That Time KING DIAMOND Met POST MALONE At A SLAYER Show

Is that you, Posty?

King Diamond-3572

Given their affinity for facial decor, one would think King Diamond and Post Malone kick it every weekend.

Just kidding.

As it were, the 65-year-old Danish metal veteran and Mercyful Fate vocalist met the star rapper at a Slayer show, and needless to say, The Prince of Darkness was not familiar with "Rockstar,” “Circles,” or any of P-Money's other certified bangers, if we're being really honest.

“I did meet Post Malone backstage at a Slayer concert,” Diamond told Metal Hammer. “It was funny, because he got a picture with me and I didn’t know who he was. It was only later that I found out he was this huge star, far bigger than I’ll ever be. I don’t know much about new music—the closest I get is Volbeat.”

Volbeat?! Whoa, easy there, Your Royal Evilness. You know what they say about too much too soon.

Speaking of which, this story gets even better, because the person to verify this incredibly off-the-wall chance meeting was none other than Metallica's Kirk Hammett.

"So… three guys walk into a Slayer show," Hammett wrote in the caption to his Instagram post, in a photo where—quite noticeably—King Diamond is without his traditional stage make-up. Which immediately says to me that Post Malone didn't have a chicken-fried fucking clue who was standing next to Kirk Hammett. As it stands, the photo practically looks like a drunk photobomb in the stands at a NASCAR race.

But, hey—who am I to judge? Malone has stated before some of his biggest influence has come from metal bands like Metallica and Megadeth, and he even has a tattoo of Dimebag Darrell on his finger.

I mean, c’mon—a Pantera tattoo? That squares his metal credentials up fine with me. A tattoo is a commitment, after all. And a Pantera tattoo? Pffft…. who’s crazy enough to do that?

In the meantime, enjoy a little Mercyful Fate to get you through your day. And all you aspiring rappers, take notes!
