Corey Taylor Has Finished Lyrics for New SLIPKNOT Album, But Hasn't Recorded Them Yet

Slipknot-10

Slipknot has been working on a follow up for 2019's We Are Not Your Kind for over a year and it looks like we are inching closer and closer to new music. Percussionist M. Shawn Crahan has previously called "God music" and compared its sound to the band's 2001 album Iowa. Frontman Corey Taylor offered an update in a new interview.

Speaking to Consequence of Sound prior to the shocking news of the death of founding drummer Joey Jordison, Taylor gave an update of his status for the new album.

“It’s an expansion of where we were at on We Are Not Your Kind’. This band has always prided itself on expanding boundaries, expanding our musical vision. It’s got the heavy… There’s so many different elements on this one, man, that let’s just say I’m really excited to get the vocals on it. I’ve got all the lyrics written and whatnot. I’m starting to fine-tune everything. It’s gonna be interesting, man.

“I think I talked about it somewhere else where this is the first time in a long time on a Slipknot album where I’m not just talking about things from my point of view; I’m trying to look at things from other people’s point of view and tell different stories again. I’m kind of getting back to that, and it feels very freeing. It’s very liberating, man. And it’s gonna be rad. There’s a couple of songs on here that people are gonna be, like… There’s definitely some pit openers that are gonna fucking freak people out. It’s gonna be rad.”

Taylor previously also chimed in about the new material, saying the new stuff has "made me start thinking outside my own box and challenging myself." The new album will likely be Slipknot's final effort for Roadrunner, and the band is hoping to have it out by the end of the year.

Slipknot have a busy rest of 2021, as they will be touring with Killswitch EngageFever 333, and Code Orange. The tour will kick off in Tinley Park, IL on September 28 a few days after Knotfest Iowa 2021 wraps up. Get the dates below.
