SLIPKNOT's Clown Compares New Album To Iowa

"Yes. Yes. This one is a cobra in a basket."

Slipknot is currently working on a new album that percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan has called "God music". Taylor has also chimed in about the new material, saying the new stuff has "made me start thinking outside my own box and challenging myself." Now we're back to the opinions of Crahan, who in his usual roundabout way has revealed the new album is similar to the band's 2001 effort Iowa.

In an interview with Metal Hammer, Crahan confirmed the band is making an album similar to Iowa and then… compared it to a cobra in a basket.

"Yes. Yes. This one is a cobra in a basket. You can either know how to play the instrument, or you can take the circumstance. This is real. But you’re gonna open the basket. You’re going to play, you’re going to charm and be charmed.

"What are you going to do when you’re the Clown and you’re stuck at home? I got busy writing. We got busy thinking and feeling. We got busy loving and taking it in. I had the leisure to do it in my own sanctuary and have beautiful people show up and just eat peppers from my garden after writing music."

In other Slipknot news, the band just announced their tour with Killswitch Engage, Fever 333, and Code Orange. The tour will kick off in Tinley Park, IL on September 28 a few days after Knotfest Iowa 2021 wraps up. Gets the dates below.
