A lot of metalheads were taken aback a few months ago, when Miley Cyrus revealed she was working on a Metallica covers album with producer Andrew Watt (who is also helping Ozzy Osbourne with his new album). Now, in a new interview, Miley has revealed some collaborators on the album.
During a recent U.K. radio show appearance on Capital Breakfast With Roman Kemp, Miley revealed one of the songs she covered was "Nothing Else Matters" and it featured a piano part from Elton John and drums from Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith.
"I'm so excited about this collaboration. Andrew Watt produced it, and I'm really stoked. I mean, having Elton John and Metallica and me — I love it when ingredients don’t quite fit."
This kinda plays into my previous theory that Miley will likely be tackling most of the ballad-heavy songs in Metallica's arsenal. I can see her putting a spin on "Fade To Black," "One" and maybe "Until It Sleeps." I'm sure she'll throw in one of the heavy classics like "Master of Puppets" as well to the dismay of hardcore Metallica elitists everywhere.
Elton seems very open to working on rock-oriented tracks, especially with Watt behind the boards. Last year, he contributed to an Ozzy Osbourne song.
Miley previously said to Interview in October "We’ve been working on a Metallica cover album and I’m here working on that. We’re so lucky to be able to continue to work on our art during all of this. At first, it felt uninspiring and now I’ve been totally ignited."
Cyrus is unquestionably a fan of rock music and heavy metal. She recently reinterpreted Nine Inch Nails' "Head Like A Hole" for an episode of Netflix's Black Mirror about pop stardom. She's previously covered Led Zeppelin and has been seen around town with her share of metal shirts. Miley also appeared at the Chris Cornell tribute show covering Temple of the Dog and doing an incredible job.
Here is some footage of her covering Metallica at Glastonbury:
