Grand Theft Auto V Almost Had Metal Radio Station (Which May Have Been Hosted By Trent Reznor)

Sometimes in video games, there's a lot of unused code floating around that suggests what almost was included. In the case of Grand Theft Auto V, there was apparently almost a Trent Reznor-hosted rock and metal radio station. Players of the game will notice that the genres were fairly absent throughout, which sucks considering previous games have had some decently heavy musical selections.

However, with the new PC version of the game released earlier this year, hackers have been decompiling the source code, and one of their finds was a potential metal and hard rock radio station called PMR. Here's a logo found within the source code:

The logo that very closely resembled Nine Inch Nails' logo, leading to speculation that Trent Reznor would've been the host of the channel. According to GTA Wiki, the following songs were almost included.

  • Faith No More – The Real Thing (1989)
  • Mansun – Wide Open Space (1996)
  • Oasis – (It's Good) To Be Free (1994)
  • Staind – It's Been Awhile (2001)
  • Stereophonics – Mr. Writer (2001)
  • The Charlatans – The Only One I Know (1990)
  • Travis – Side (2001)

Interesting. I wonder if things would have gotten heavier or if Faith No More and Staind were basically it?

According to the wiki, the station was eventually replaced by Vinewood Boulevard Radio, but the wiki states "the game files suggest that P.M.R. was included in the game until relatively close to the final development, as the P.M.R logo for use in the radio wheel still exists within the files, and the folder storing the songs for Vinewood Boulevard Radio still includes references to this station. P.M.R.."

Yes, it's being billed as Nine Inch Nails and not Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross.
