Meshuggah frontman Jens Kidman and drummer Tomas Haake were the guests during a live chat in the Nuclear Blast Screening Room yesterday and they answered fan questions during the event. I was able to watch it live, it's sort of my job! The most interesting bit of news to come out of the chat is the band revealing that they are eyeing a September/October release this year. We've known the band has been writing and recording for at least year now but this is the first official word on any sort of release date.
Jens and Tomas were asked some follow up questions which I tried as best as I could to log:
When asked if the record would sound similar to their 2008 release, obZen, Tomas answered (paraphrased): "We have a sound that we are going for. We were pretty happy with how the production came out on obZen, and the new album is kind of in that vein, but there will always be a bit of difference".
They also revealed that they would not be mixing the album, instead bringing in Daniel Bergstrand who worked with the band on my two favorite records of theirs, Chaosphere & Destroy Erase Improve.
Holy shitballs, is that awesome news or what? We are definitely going to hear new Meshuggah this year. We have to assume that the band would also be doing some touring in the Fall to promote the release of the album, which gets me even more excited. Who else shares my enthusiasm?
