Last week we all assumed Meshuggah was in the studio recording a new album, mainly because they posted a photo from the studio and that seemed like a logical guess to make. There were still some questions, namely is Fredrick going to be recording with the band? Now the band has unveiled a few details about what's going on!
Most obviously, Meshuggah has confirmed they're recording a new album at Sweetspot Studio. They've also confirmed that guitarist Fredrik Thordendal is back in the band full time for both the new album sessions and all upcoming shows. Thordendal had been absent from the band since 2017, and has been filled in for by Per Nilsson (Scar Symmetry).
As Meshuggah puts it, "The band is back together. In full effect."
"Things are happening. As some of you figured out we have entered Sweetspot Studio and have begun recording a new album. Spoiler There will be distortion and kicks.
"Also we have other news. We are releasing Per Nilsson back into the wild to roam free in any way he sees fit. It has been a true privilege and honor to share the stage with Per and even more importantly we have made a great friend through our travels. Per. We thank you. You are a formidable human being!!
"So why are we releasing Per back into a more stable habitat you ask? The answer is simple. Fredrik will be back for lead work on the album as well as touring going forward. In other words. The Band is back together. In full effect."
