You mean, they haven't recorded anything yet?!
We've been getting some teases from Mastodon about new material for a few months now. They first dropped hints of writing a new album in December and then last month they were 'very busy' writing new material. Bassist Troy Sanders has called the new material "delicious."
But it seems the band has only been writing, and at most, recording some demos. No official studio hours have been logged yet and it doesn't look like they will be for the next few months as the band is hitting the road, currently in Europe during their big festival season and then all summer on Mayhem Fest.
Drummer Brann Drailor was interviewed by a Dutch reporter, and while the interview is quite awkwardly hilarious, there is one tidbit of news worth sharing. The band hope to enter the studio in September. Here is the direct quote from Brann:
We'll probably record in September, maybe…I'm guessing. But nothing is set in stone at the moment. We're pretty close, as far as our demos are concerned. We're getting there.
If it's any consellation, we know we'll get at least one new Mastodon track this summer, as the band has committed to recording an original track for the Disney/Pixar movie, Monsters U, which the band revealed a few months ago.
