King Diamond has been working on the follow up to 2007's Give Me Your Soul… Please for a few years now, and last we heard the king himself is in the studio laying down vocals. Clearly not content with releasing just one record after 12 years, guitarist Andy LaRocque says he's already working on the one after the new album.
LaRocque tells The Metal Voice the new record will be a two-parter not released simultaneously and that the theme is "a 1920's mental institution," though he adds "I don't really know too much about the story with exception to the very few lines King told me so far."
"Right now, I'm actually composing some songs for King Diamond for the next album. It's probably going to be two separate albums, not released with the same package. The next album will be a continuation of the first one, part one then part two … I know it's going to be a complete, new story and it's going to be about life and death and everything in between."
So now you have something to look forward to this year and the coming years! In the meantime, King Diamond will release a new double live album Songs For The Dead Live on January 25. The album features all of his 1987 record Abigail performed in full alongside some old fan favorites and even a few Mercyful Fate songs. The two sets on the record were taken from Belgium's Graspop Metal Meeting in June 2016 and the band's performance in November 2015 at the Fillmore in Philadelphia.
