Weekly Injection

The Weekly Injection: New Releases From SLAYER, SABBATH ASSEMBLY and More Out Today – 9/11

This edition includes the one band that would release an album on 9/11, and a lot of other cool shit. To the metals…

Hollywood Vampires – Hollywood Vampires 91bWf6rvDkL._SL1500_

Genre: Rock
Origin: Los Angeles, California
Label: Universal

Alice Cooper, Joe Perry and Johnny Depp use their star power to gather a rather star-studded line-up of (mostly) old rockers and are dropping a (mostly) covers record. Names include Brian Johnson of AC/DC, Slash, Dave Grohl, Paul McCartney and more. It sorta comes off like Roadrunner United or Metal Allegiance, but one your dad would dig.

Limb – Terminal 11253229_792758867505981_5665606075570748467_n

Genre: Stoner
Origin: London, England
Label: New Heavy Sounds

Buy now on Amazon.com

Dirty, fuzzy stoner metal from the metal motherland. They could have easily fallen into the trap many bands like them do in simply rehashing Sabbath riffs, but the band uses the stoner blueprints as a starting point and journeys through a wide variety of other sounds.

Sabbath Assembly – Sabbath Assembly sabbath-assembly-lp

Genre: Occult metal
Origin: Texas/New York
Label: Svart

Another really, really amazing band that uses old metal as a foundation, yet successfully transcends the trope of simply being a rehashing. This band is one I need more of in my life. They're proggy, spooky, and are able to showcase a wide variety within a record.

Slayer – Repentless Slayer_Repentless_Cover

Genre: Thrash
Origin: Huntington Park, California
Label: Nuclear Blast

Do I even need to say a word about this other than "Slayer!" with fifteen additional A's? I mean it's the first record since Jeff's death, the first since Dave's (second) departure, and of course has a silly album title. However, between Kerry and Tom, you've still got a Slayer album that should please fans than have stuck with this band the whole time.
