You haven't heard too much from Dark Tranquillity this year, and there's certainly a reason for that. According to vocalist Mikael Stanne in an interview with Metal Mad TV, the band has largely taken this year off to write the followup to their 2016 album Atoma. Stanne says the band is planning to record next year, though plans are pretty loose right now.
"We are kind of gathering material and starting the pre-production process. The idea is to have things finalized by the end of the year and then start recording next year somehow, if everything works well. It's in the works. This year is kind of like an 'off' year — we only do a few festivals and no touring, so we're going to focus on writing and getting a new album ready."
Dark Tranquillity has had guitarists Christopher Amott (ex-Arch Enemy, ex-Armageddon) and Johan Reinholdz (Andromeda, Skyfire) filling in with them live since 2017, so here's hoping either of those dudes get involved in the process.
