Avenged Sevenfold released "Not Ready To Die" for Call of Duty: Black Ops in 2010 and "Carry On" for Call of Duty: Black Ops II in 2012. Now the band is gearing up to release a currently-untitled new song this July for the coming Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 game due out this October.
Avenged Sevenfold bassist Johnny Christ tells Hard Drive Radio that the song is written and they're recording it right now. He says it's "a little bit of a departure from what I think our fans would expect," and that vocalist M. Shadows hasn't finished the lyrics yet.
"The song's written, we're recording it right now. We just took a break in the middle of recording this last week. We're gonna finish it up this coming week, and then it's going to go out and get mixed and mastered. And I believe sometime in July is when everyone will be hearing it for the first time.
"It was specifically written for the game. But it kind of became its own thing. The guys over at Activision became our friends throughout the years because we've done so many things, the Call of Duty stuff. They asked us if we could do an original song and we said yes. So we started writing and this is what came out of it."
It'll be interesting to hear how Avenged Sevenfold approaches new music not in the context of a new album.
