John Clayton

John Clayton, ESPN's longtime NFL reporter and Slayer fan, has passed away at 67 years old. No cause of death has been revealed other than that he passed at home in Washington state "after a brief illness" surrounded by friends and family. Clayton is known in the metal world as the metalhead reporter with the hilarious Slayer-based commercial, which you can relive below.

Clayton was ESPN's reporter between 1995 and 2017. He also really was a Slayer, as he talked a little bit about in a 2014 interview, saying "[seeing Slayer live] was great. They are great people, great musicians, a great group." Oh, and yes – Slayer guitarist Kerry King also thought the advertisement was funny.
