Thy Art Is Murder, The Acacia Strain, Oceano, Martyr Defiled, and a whole bunch of other bands might have their groups of fans, but they've all got one thing in common – somewhere along the line they all use the same goddamn breakdown.
YouTube user Zero_Life_Left took a bunch of songs by the aforementioned artists and points out that they all use a very, very similar variation on groupings of dotted quarter notes and quarter notes as breakdowns… very similar.
Though that isn't to say that deathcore is guilty of this. I'm sure we could make a video of death metal songs using the same structures and patterns as well, because let's face it – not every band is rife with creative genius.
