PARKWAY DRIVE Vocalist Says Band Has Outgrown Metalcore

Parkway Drive is about to be six albums deep into their career come this Friday with the release of Reverance. The singles we've heard thus far have been pretty diverse and generally not very metalcore.

Which is no coincidence – Parkway Drive frontman Winston McCall tells Loudwire in an interview that he feels as though the band has outgrown the metalcore tag, though they'll always be some variation of heavy.

"Yes, I would agree. Ultimately, I want people to listen to our music and just say, 'That sounds like Parkway Drive.' That's it. I don't aim to say we have to be a metalcore band or a metal band or whatever genre.

Creatively, the older we get, the more stuff we're gonna do. We're always going to be a heavy band… What do we like doing? Melodic stuff, heavy stuff, things we're interested in. That actually spans a hell of a lot, so we're going to keep going to those areas."

This really shouldn't be a huge surprise to fans. Parkway Drive's 2015 album Ire had a lot of different genres going on in it, and the band's most recent single "Prey" had an almost Viking metal feel to it. Dudes have been releasing albums since 2005 – is it really shocking they wanted to slowly drop metalcore? Pre-order Reverence below and catch the band on tour with Stick To Your Guns and Bad Omens at one of the dates below.
