BRING ME THE HORIZON Accused Of Lifting A DEFTONES Riff On A New Track

bringmethehorizon2020

Fans are listening to the new Bring Me The Horizon EP that was released on Friday, and they noticed a familiar riff. The opening track, “Dear Diary,” bares a striking resemblance to the Deftones 2012 track "Swerve City."

Listen to the two tracks below. The riff in question starts at around 2:10 on "Dear Diary."

This isn't the first time Bring Me The Horizon has been accused of being inspired by another riff. The band was sued by Evanescence for lifting a riff on the track "Nihilist Blues." The band eventually settled out of court with frontwoman Amy Lee and gave her credit on the track.

Oli Sykes told NME of the incident “The weird thing about Evanescence is that we got sued by them on our last record. On ‘nihilist blues,’ we ripped off one of their verses. It was subconscious, but when it happened we were like, ‘We’re not even going to argue.'”

Oli later clarified on Twitter that there wasn't an actual threat of a lawsuit. "And i have to clear something up! When i said @evanescence sued the band over nihilist blues, that wasn’t exactly true! Our managers just exchanged words and we offered them song writing credits, @AmyLeeEV didn’t want a thing from the band in her words has nothing but love for us."

Do you hear the similarities?
